SAG Election Results Thrown Out The Screen Actors Guild has set aside the results of its November election, setting the stage for another campaign for the actors union's top leadership positions.
Melissa Gilbert, who won the union's presidency over fellow 1970s TV star Valerie Harper, will remain in her post until the new vote takes place, SAG's executive committee decided Tuesday (Jan. 8), a day after a different panel decided to throw out the election results. The election was scrapped because New York members were given two extra days to vote, and because no signature line appeared on ballots mailed to New York, the Los Angeles Times reports. New ballots will be mailed to members by March 15, with an April 10 deadline for their return.
Recording secretary Elliott Gould and treasurer Kent McCord, who campaigned with Harper and were among the actors who challenged the election's legitimacy, will also keep their posts while the revote is conducted.
Gilbert, best known for her role on "Little House on the Prairie," criticized the former leadership of the union in her campaign for leading a six-month strike against advertisers. Harper, the star of "Rhoda" and "Valerie," was a strong supporter of former SAG president William Daniels, who led the strike. Related Shows
